The 2018 Jeep Renegade is the smallest Jeep in the lineup, but it may have the biggest personality. It has a "cute ute" appearance that gives it a unique appearance. This smallest jeep is turning heads in the relatively new compact SUV niche and should be on anyone's short list. The Renegade also has some nifty off-road capability, making it a versatile vehicle that would be fine as a daily driver. The interior gets a refreshing for 2018, which includes two new storage compartments in the front row. New additional fabrics are available for the interior this year, along with new colors inside and out. The infotainment system is now standard at the highest level, and the Sport model comes with a radio system and five-inch display. The rearview camera is standard on all trims for 2018. The upper trims can get an 8.4-inch touchscreen navigation system. The Renegade seats five comfortably, and still has some room for cargo behind the rear seat. It has plenty of places to store things, and has 51 cubic feet of space available.

There are five trim levels, starting with the Sport, followed by the Latitude, Altitude, Limited and Trailhawk. The Sport comes with a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine, 16-inch wheels, five-inch touchscreen, rearview camera, and remote entry and ignition. The latitude adds 17-inch wheels and a seven-inch touchscreen. It has satellite radio available, roof rails, fog lights and an upgraded steering wheel. The Altitude gets 18-inch gloss black aluminum wheels, black accents, and dark glass. The Limited has a larger engine, 18-inch wheels, heated front seats and leather-trimmed seating, making this the luxury version. It has a leather-wrapped, heated steering wheel, remote start and roof rails. The Trailhawk, as you would expect is the off-road version. This one has 17-inch off-road wheels, offroad tires, and is slightly higher off the ground. It has four-wheel drive with an Active Drive system and a traction management system. It has skid plates, and hill descent controls.

The 2018 Renegade base engine is a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that has 160 horsepower and 184 foot-pounds of torque. The next engine is the 1.4-liter four-cylinder that has 180 horsepower and 175 foot-pounds of torque. The engines can be paired with a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic. Rear wheel and all-wheel drive are available. The Renegade can get to 60 mph in 9.4 seconds and can stop from 60 mph in 123 feet. The smaller engine is rated at 21-33 miles per gallon, and the larger one is rated at 21-29 miles per gallon. Adding four-wheel drive cuts back the fuel efficiency a small amount. The jeep is fun to drive and handles well. It is small enough to handle narrow streets, and is easy to park. It adds the off-road capability that many cars in this class do not have, and it maintains the Jeep tradition of being a rugged vehicle suitable for the outdoors.

The Renegade received four of five stars from the NHTSA, and it received the second highest rating as well from the insurance industry. It received the second highest rating in front collision prevention, and reduced the impact of a collision at 12 and 25 miles per hour. The higher levels have automatic braking, lane departure warning and assistance, rear parking sensors and automatic high beam headlights. There is a safety package available that has blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic warning, security alarm, rain sensitive wipers, and the rearview camera comes standard at all levels.
