Following an extensive redesign two years ago, the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse adds a few minor updates in the 2020 iteration. Some of the newest and best features have been included in the optional package upgrades and the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system debuts with a more streamlined smartphone touchscreen appearance and more vivid graphics. However, one of the most significant changes in the RS trim's turbocharged four-cylinder engine upgrades to a V6 that is now available a standard in all 2020 trims.  In other areas, the Traverse remains the same. It is still the roomiest three-row SUV on the market that is not full-sized, which offers plenty of room for your belongings, and one of the most pleasant highway rides available. The 3.6-liter V6 standard engine with 310 horsepower output is coupled with a nine-speed automatic transmission for raw power thus replacing the 257-horsepower turbo four-engine from previous years. While the Traverse is hardly a drag racer, the V6 engine offers ample power for most driving scenarios and pairs well with the smooth transmission. The only real downside is that the stop-start function cannot be disabled. The Environmental Protection Agency estimates the Traverse at 18 mpg for city driving and 27 mpg on the highway with the front-wheel-drive system. These ratings are typical for a vehicle of this size and in this class. When in all-wheel drive, the fuel ratings drop slightly to 17 mpg city and 25 mpg highway, which is also standard.

The 2020 Traverse can seat seven or eight people depending on the model. The seats are comfortable, and the first two rides provide considerable space. The third row is ideal for the kids, but adults can also fit comfortably for shorter trips. This Chevy boasts a tremendous amount of cargo space with 23 cubic feet behind the rear seats which are more than enough room for a dozen pieces of luggage. The second-and third-row seats fold down expanding the cargo space to 98.2 cubic feet. Standard features include the Infotainment 3 systems with a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, six USB ports, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hot spot. Additional upgraded features include wireless charging, an 8-inch touch screen, navigation, rear-seat entertainment, 10-speaker Bose audio, and satellite radio.

There is much to be excited about in the safety department with the Traverse scoring highly on the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration's analysis. The 2020 model scored a 4/5 on the Frontal Barrier Crash Rating test, a 5/5 on Side Crash Rating, 5/5 Side Barrier Rating, 5/5 on the Front and Back Seat Combined Side Barrier and Pole Ratings, and a 4/5 on the Rollover Test. Teen Driver Mode is one of the best safety features that limit certain systems and safety features from being deactivated while reporting driving behavior. Also, Side Blind Zone Alert warns the driver when a lane change could cause a collision with another vehicle. The Front Automatic Braking system automatically applies the brakes to avoid potential collisions with vehicles ahead of the driver.

The basic model is the Traverse L which boasts a price of $29,800 and includes tri-zone automatic climate control, Teen Driver, the Infotainment 3 system with a 7-inch touchscreen, and a rearview camera. The LS starts at $32,900 and offers all the base features plus all-wheel drive for $2,000 and rear-seat entertainment. The LT Cloth is $35,400 and features power-adjustable driver's seat, second-row captain's chairs, 8-inch touchscreen, rear parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, and a power liftgate. The RS starts at $43,600 and offers all the above plus leather upholstery, 10-speak Bose audio, navigation, rear camera mirror, and surround-view parking. The Premier starts at $45,800 and includes a hands-free power liftgate, wireless charging, ventilated front seats, and heated seats. The High Country starts at $50,900 and has every tech-feature available, including adaptive cruise control, power-folding third-row seats, and trailering equipment.
